Common Refrigerator Issues

The Problems We Fix:

It's the groceries you just bought, and the medication that needs to stay cold. The kids are asking what's for dinner, and you stare at a warm fridge, wondering how fast things are going bad.

Refrigerator problems rarely happen at a convenient time — and they can't wait the way some repairs can. That's why Appliance Repair & Rescue prioritizes fridge and freezer calls and offers same-day service whenever possible.

We'll come out, diagnose the problem honestly, tell you exactly what's wrong and what it'll cost, and fix it right — so you're not losing another load of groceries or making another call next week.

Sound Familiar? Here's What We Repair.

If your refrigerator or freezer is doing any of these things, it's time to call.

Problem 1 — Not Cooling or Freezing. The most urgent call we get. If your fridge is running but not maintaining temperature, the issue could be a dirty condenser coil, a faulty evaporator fan, or a refrigerant issue. We'll pinpoint it fast.

Problem 2 — Ice Maker Not Working. Not making ice, making too little, dispensing crushed when you asked for cubed, or dumping ice on its own — ice maker problems are frustrating and surprisingly common. We repair ice makers on built-in refrigerators across all major brands.

Problem 3 — Water Leaking Inside or Onto the Floor. A clogged defrost drain, a cracked water line, or a failing door seal can all cause water to pool inside the fridge or puddle on your kitchen floor. We find the source and fix it cleanly.

Problem 4 — Frost Buildup in the Freezer. If you're seeing thick frost forming on the freezer walls or around the evaporator, your defrost system isn't working correctly. Left alone, it gets worse — and eventually affects cooling throughout the entire unit.

Problem 5 — Unusual Noises. Clicking, buzzing, rattling, or a loud hum that wasn't there before — refrigerators shouldn't be noisy. These sounds usually point to something specific: a failing start relay, a condenser fan hitting an obstruction, or an ice maker cycling incorrectly.

Problem 6 — Door Seals and Gaskets. A worn or cracked door gasket lets warm air in constantly, making your compressor work overtime. Your fridge runs more, uses more energy, and struggles to maintain temperature. A new gasket is one of the most cost-effective refrigerator repairs there is.

Problem 7 — Error Codes on the Display. Samsung, LG, and other smart refrigerators throw error codes when something's wrong. If your display is showing a code you don't recognize, don't ignore it — we'll read it and tell you exactly what it means.

We Know Your Brand

Samsung — including RF, RS, RH, and French Door series. Common issues: ice maker failures, error codes (specifically 40 E, 41 E, 88), and cooling problems in the RF28 and RF23 model lines.

LG — including LRMVS, LRFXS, and French Door series. Common issues: linear compressor faults (Er FF, Er rF error codes), ice maker failure in LRMVS3006S and related models.

Whirlpool — including Gold and WRS series. Known for defrost system issues and ice maker failures in older French Door configurations.

GE & GE Profile — including GSS, PFE, and GSE series. Common: ice maker failures, evaporator fan motor issues, and door gasket wear.

Maytag — reliable workhorses that occasionally need defrost system attention and ice maker service as they age.

Frigidaire & Frigidaire Gallery — including FFHB and FGHB series. Common: ice maker jamming and temperature fluctuation.

KitchenAid — premium units with occasional control board and ice maker issues.

Why Boise Homeowners Choose Us for Refrigerator Repair

Questions We Hear All the Time

Q: How quickly can you get to me?

A: We offer same-day and next-day appointments across Boise, Nampa, Meridian, Caldwell, and Eagle. Call us at (208) 941-2555 and we'll get you on the schedule as fast as possible.

A: The honest answer depends on the age of the unit, the cost of the repair, and the repair-to-replace ratio. A general rule: if the repair costs more than 50% of the price of a comparable new unit, replacement usually makes more financial sense. We'll give you our honest assessment — including when we think replacement is the smarter move.

A: Samsung refrigerators use error codes to flag specific problems. Some of the most common ones we see:

40 E / 41 E — Ice maker issue, typically a sensor or fan fault
88 88 or All Segments — Often a power fluctuation; try unplugging for 30 seconds first
PC ER — Communication error between the freezer and fridge sections
OF OF — Demo mode is on; the fridge isn't cooling intentionally. If the code persists after a reset, call us — we'll diagnose it in person.

Q: My LG refrigerator isn't making ice. Is this a known issue?

A: Yes — LG French Door refrigerators, particularly models with the linear compressor (LRMVS3006S and related), have a known ice maker failure pattern. It's one of the more common calls we handle. The fix varies: sometimes it's a fan motor, sometimes the ice maker assembly itself. We'll diagnose it accurately before recommending parts or labor.

A: No — and we'll be straightforward about that. Sealed system repairs and compressor replacements require EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling certification. We don't perform those repairs. If your diagnosis points there, we'll let you know clearly rather than attempt work outside our scope.

A: Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, GE Profile, Maytag, Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Amana, and most other major residential brands. If you're not sure whether we service yours, just call.
